Photo of Ravenscar Ravenscar

Across the bay from Robin Hood’s Bay the view is spectacular and on the southernmost headland is Ravenscar, once the vantage point used by the Romans as a signal station.

The 3 mile long Ravenscar Trail enables you to discover the geology and local history of this beautiful stretch of Heritage Coast.

The old 18th Century Alum works can still be visited all year round and a National Trust Visitor Centre is open during the summer months. This small village has a hidden secret. A century ago, a bid to build a resort to rival Scarborough came to nothing, but all was in place for it to begin.

Now, ancient kerbstones and ornate manhole covers poke through the turf, still awaiting the building of “the town that never was”.

There is a regular bus service to this village, bus number 115. (please check details)
