Danby
Danby is at the very heart of the North York Moors National Park, and you can find out about it at the North York Moors Centre. Lying amidst moorland, farmland and woodland it is an ideal area for walking with many different routes, some taking in the sites of early settlers. At the centre of Danby is the village green where Scotch Blackface sheep roam freely keeping the grass down all year round.
A fine place from which to view the Esk valley on a clear day is the Beacon, Danby Beacon is an early warning station dating back to the time of the Stoneage. Danby is also accessible from the scenic Esk Valley Railway, which runs from Whitby to Middlesbrough.
